In 2003, Vera Wesigerber participated in the Kanner staark maachen project alongside the luxembourgish film director Bady Minck and began an ambitious project with children of Montenegrin families who were exiled and welcomed in Luxembourg. Within the homes provided by the refugees, she introduced the children to photography as they documented their day-to-day lives over the course of four years.
The project led Vera Weisgerber to visit Montenegro where she met with some of the families who have been evicted to their home country. Pictures that bear witness to new upheavals were sent to the artist on a regular basis and eventually created a massive set of picture archives.
Based on her experiences, Vera Weisgerber retained her own very personal view of the project, and the glance she cast on the day-to-day life of the families is at once intimate and discreet.
Born in 1971, Vera Weisgerber lives and works in Luxembourg
Since her studies at the Ecole de Recherche Graphique in Brussels and her residency at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam (1997-98), Luxembourg artist Vera Weisgerber has developed an impressive body of work, primarily photographic and video, dealing with such subjects as the perception of the human body, prosthetics, portraiture, the sky, travel, and interior spaces. Her approach involves unexpected displacements and rearrangements of given material, and she often makes use of unconventional exhibition spaces.
"Vera Weisgerber: unclassifiable, impatient, always in search of a rupture, never doing what one expects of her" (Josée Hansen in d'Lëtzebuerger Land, 22 August 2003).
Since 1995, Weisgerber has participated in numerous solo and group shows, for which many pieces were created in relation to the specific context. En 2003 Vera Weisgerber participe au projet Kanner staark maachen avec la réalisatrice luxembourgeoise Bady Minck et entreprend un ambitieux projet avec les enfants de familles monténégrines exilées et accueillies au Luxembourg. Elle mène dans les foyers d'accueil un travail d'initiation à la pratique photographique avec les enfants, qui finiront par documenter leur quotidien pendant quatre ans.
Le projet mènera Vera Weisgerber jusqu'au Monténégro, où elle retrouvera certaines de ces familles, déboutées dans leur pays d'origine. Témoignant de nouveaux bouleversements, ces clichés ont été périodiquement envoyés à l'artiste pour constituer progressivement une immense archive d'images.
De son expérience, Vera Weisgerber a retenu sa vision très personnelle du projet et le regard qu'elle porte sur le quotidien de ces familles est à la fois intimiste et pudique. Tumbling dice raconte l'histoire d'une rencontre, mais aussi celle de la vie de tous les jours quand «maison» se définit de façons multiples.

Depuis ses études à l'Ecole de Recherche Graphique à Bruxelles et sa résidence à la Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten d'Amsterdam (1997-98), l'artiste luxembourgeoise Vera Weisgerber a développé une œuvre impressionnante, principalement photographique et vidéo, traitant de sujets tels que la perception du corps humain, la prothèse, le portrait, le ciel, le voyage, et les espaces intérieurs. Occupant souvent des espaces d'exposition inhabituels, l'approche de Vera Weisgerber inclut des déplacements inattendus et des réaménagements des matériaux donnés.
